But if you’re gonna fill my blog with spam…then I don’t want nuthin’ to do with ya!  I just deleted 515 spam comments and turned them off altogether.  So, you may contact me however you normally do if you know me.
Now, if I could only figure out how to avoid the 600-1,000 spam e-mails I get  a day to enlarge body parts I do not have, or buy drugs I do not take…

Ok, the cat’s outta the bag

I got myself a brand new tube amplifier
It’s large and lovely to behold
La, La, La, La, La
I got myself a new tube amplifier
Now I’m gonna blow a big one

I got myself a little tube amplifier
It’s large and lovely and it smells just like a dream
I got myself a tube amplifier
Now I’m gonna blow a big one

(this song has been in my head since my trip to the gee-tar center. It’s “Toob amplifier” by the presidents of the united states)
ok. so that’s the big surprise…..I got a presonus preamp-now coupled with the groovy little microverb someone loaned me… I noticed a huge difference in sound tonight during worship. My bow was weird though, I wonder if it was the humidity affecting the rosin, it felt kind of mushy.
The part I didn’t mention was the spontaneous/random/serendipitous/divine shopping trip at guitar center with the Violet Burning on Tuesday. Michael, Chris and Lenny (via phone) removed some of the mystery of preamps, pickups and otherwise inferior equipment. I guess I’ll have to try to get a hold of Black Cherry if I ever want bass pointers. Yes, Rob, Julio, the mexican fender is still sitting here beckoning me. I pick him up sometimes.

The Violet Burnenators really helped me figure stuff out. Thank you. I feel kinda special. Whoop whoop!

KOMBUCHA (conversation from this weekend’s retreat)
“So, is that that fancy fermented tea stuff?” (me)
“Yeah KAMBOOOOOCHA… it’s kind of like drinking a loogey” (K)
“and that is supposed to make me want to try it?  Thank you for giving me the reason I was looking for, to NOT ever drink it!” (me)

…and here I am….drinking it at my desk. I saw something floating in there (something that is supposed to be good for you) and I totally chugged it without looking or tasting it.  I’m gonna be SOOOOO healthy…or die.

It’s pouring out of me again.

The light pours out of me-Magazine

Time flies
Time crawls
Like on insect
Up and down the walls

The light pours out of me
The light pours out of me

The conspiracy
Of silence ought
To revolutionise
My thought

The light pours out of me …

The cold light of day
Pours out of me
Leaving me black
And so healthy

The light pours out of me …

It jerks out of me
Like blood
In this still life
Heart beats up love

The light pours out of me …

Guess what I just bought…and guess who picked it out?  You’ll have to wait until this Saturday to find out.  Couldn’t have happened any weirder.

(hint)

it is not a s’more

Resonating

September 3rd, 2007

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true…I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do
I was made for you
You see the smile that’s on my mouth
It’s hiding the words that don’t come out
And all of my friends who think that I’m blessed
They don’t know my head is a mess
No, they don’t know who I really am
And they don’t know what
I’ve been through like you do
And I was made for you…
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true…I was made for you.

So this weekend at the Bluer retreat, Michael Pritzl asked a few of us what songs were resonating with us….I had a brain drain and forgot everything….but then remembered that this song ‘The Story’ by Brandi Carlile has been resonating in me for a couple of months now.

It’s true. I was made for you.

6,000 spam e-mails in my junk folder from this week.

Forgot all of my passwords.

Wonder why I never blog anymore? I just polluted my mind attempting to moderate comments…gave up after the 1st page of horrid evil gross spam. I remember why I gave up on the inter web this summer.
Hope anyone reading this had a great summer. Even the evil spam folks.

You are Jesus favorite one.

Devil went down to Georgia

March 25th, 2007

Devil went down to Georgia (ala Primus)

So after downloading the old school Chuck D version, listening, laughing, remembering secretly listening to it as a little girl in my bed in the dark (to see if the radio would beep out the bad word), and realizing that Primus made a MOVIE…I had to look up the lyrics to the incoherent song Johnny defeats the devil with. I was a little underwhelmed.

Fire on the moun, run boys, run.
The devil’s in the house of the risin’ sun.
Chicken in the bread pin, pickin’ out dough.
“Granny, does your dog bite?”
“No, child, no.”

Whaa?

Which reminded me of a recent ponderation (new word I just made up) :
If your sword of the spirit is a little more like a dull butterknife…but God gave it to you and said “FIGHT!” Isn’t that just as good as a fancy sword? And if you gotta sing a stupid song about chickens pickin bread dough and whether your grandma’s dog bites to get the devil off yer back….then GO! FIGHT! SING! LIVE! Get some chickens as back up singers! That’s all for now.

p.s. I love the sound the fiddle makes every time the devil bumps it or drops it. >doink< Merely observing...

p.p.s. I didn't know where else to post this picture

Return of Saturn

March 23rd, 2007

There she is….rings and all. My neighbors didn’t think it was weird at all when I gasped at it’s majesty! They too shared in my glee.

I got a knock on my window at 8:30 or so from J to grab the kids and go across the street and try out W’s new Orion Telescope. I was blessed to see it this way, and kind of thought it looked fake at first. I can’t really tell you what it felt like…except that it was, somehow, validating. Like all those telescopic images I’ve seen thoughout my life were’t all just a conspiracy, and I really existed…here in the universe. It was real! Saturn is real! There it was …orbiting so fast and far that you could only see it for a moment before adjusting and re-focusing. I saw the rings, I saw some striations…I felt close to God.

Thank you, God…for the mysterious universe (and telescopes in the cool neighbor’s yard on a warm spring night to see it!). It’s beautiful, I’ll never forget it.

  • First…I forgot to say that I played Augie’s fiddle on Sat @ Bluer and Sun @ Emmaus Road and it was awesome!  I did learn however, that it is much easier to play in front of a large group of people you have never seen before and may never see again, than it is a room of your best friends.  Makes no sense…it was so freeing to not worry about anything and let the God take over.  We’ll see you this Saturday night, cause I’ll be sawing on Augie’s fiddle @ Bluer again!  I love that term, ’sawing’.  I had never heard it, until my Grandpa told me a little about HIS Grandpa Augie.  He said he was a builder with a bunch of rowdy brothers, who  liked to ’saw’.  Later I came to understand that he  didn’t really read music, he just liked to jam and make a bunch of noise.  Rock on, grandpa’s grandpa!
  • ABC News is going to air a story tomorrow night re: scientific validation of speaking in tongues.  They’ve found that the frontal lobe of the brain responds to this particular form of prayer differently than others.  I love seeing science validate faith.  Here it is pasted in the blog Nick sent me (in case the ABC link expires).
  • I’m applying for a passport tomorrow.  Some places say you can’t get one until June!  I can’t believe all the stuff you have to do just to go to Canada.  When the picture lady told me they were going to swear me in, it creeped me out a little.  I guess I don’t get out enough.
